报告题目:Noise-influenced Dynamics of Nonlinear Oscillators

摘要: Though noise is traditionally considered detrimental to dynamical systems,noise can sometimes be utilized for advantageous purposes. By using thephenomenon of stochastic resonance as a motivation, several nonlinearsystems have been studied, by using analytical, numerical, and experimentalmethods. Different phenomena have been explored, including noise-inducedenergy attenuation, the effects of noise on the response near a bifurcation point,and stabilizing effects of noise. These studies could lay the foundation forconstructive use of noise and nonlinearity in a variety of systems, includingmechanical systems.

报告人简介: Edmon Perkins is an assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department atAuburn University. He received a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University ofMaryland, as well as a BS and MS in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma. Hisresearch interests include nonlinear/stochastic systems, 3D printed vibrations, biologicaltensile testing, acoustic metamaterials, and controlling an anthropomorphic robotic hand.Undergraduate researchers in his lab are pursuing several vibratory design projects formusical instruments.
