Abstract
Recent research activities of nondestructive evaluation, especially electromagnetic methods at the Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University, are introduced in this lecture. Methods are classified according to the frequency used and some of the methods which are used in power plants are explained in detail. Applicability of the methods to nuclear power plant inspection is also discussed.

Professor Toshiyuki Takagi received B. Eng., M. Eng., and D. Eng. degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1977, 1979 and 1982, respectively. He was a researcher at the Energy Research Laboratory of Hitachi Ltd. (1982-1987) and Associate Professor at the Nuclear Engineering Research Laboratory of the University of Tokyo (1987-1989), Associate Professor (1989-1998) and Professor (since 1998) at the Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University. He is the Deputy Director of the Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University since 2008. His main research interests include Nondestructive evaluation of materials using electromagnetic phenomena and Diamond and diamond-like carbon coatings and their application. He has published more than 350 International and Domestic Journal papers, with more than 3000 ISI Citations. Professor Takagi received Prize for Science and Technology (Research Category) of the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (April, 2011) and ISEM (International Symposium on Applied Electromagnetics) Award (September, 2007). Now he serves as the Editor-in-chief of International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics.
