报告摘要：
Plagiarism is the incorporation of words, phrases and ideas stated or developed by someone else into your work without fully acknowledging the contribution made by the other researcher/ author. Although plagiarism is not a crime, it can constitute copyright infringement and is considered an act of fraud. Committing plagiarism damages your reputation and the reputation of your institution.
Plagiarism can be done unintentionally, due to lack of knowledge about this issue, or intentionally, by willingly ignoring the rules. This presentation gives an introduction to the problem of plagiarism, shows what steps researchers can take to avoid plagiarism, identifies reasons of students’ plagiarism and makes suggestions how we as academic staff can educate students about plagiarism and how to prevent it.
报告人简介：
Dr. Andrea Mueller holds a lecturer position at NUAA and teaches Academic Writing and Coastal Engineering courses to postgraduate students.She is a civil engineer and received a PhD in coastal engineering in 2016. Her main research interests are wave-structure interactions and their numerical modelling, wave energy and concrete properties.
