Professor Jing Tang Xing currently is an Emeritus Professor of Applied Mechanics, Fluid-Structure Interaction Research Group, Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences, University of Southampton. He was selected as a Chartered Mathematician, Fellow of Institute of Mathematics & Applications in 1998, Editorial advisor of Journal of Sound & vibration in 2004 and an Official Membership of ASME PVPD Fluid Structure Interaction Technical Committee in 2007. He was a Member of Chinese Society of Vibration Engineering, Chinese Society of Theoretical & Applied Mechanics, Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics as well as a member of Editorial Board of Journal of Vibration Engineering, CSVE before joining University of Southampton.
Professor Xing received his B.S. from Northwestern Polytechnical University in 1967, after which he became a research and development engineer engaging in research of structural dynamics at the Institute of Structure and Strength. He obtained his M.Sc. and PhD from Tsinghua University in 1981 and in 1984, respectively.His research interest is in applied mechanics and mathematics with applications in engineering, which covers theoretical, numerical and experimental researches in dynamics including linear and nonlinear fluid-solid interaction / continuum dynamics, structural dynamics and vibration controls, numerical methods for dynamic analysis, power flow analysis etc. He has published over 250 papers in refereed journals and conferences, and one of his new books: “Energy Flow theory of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems with Applications” was published by Springer in 2015.
