报告内容简介:
The shift toward lightweight, multimaterial and sustainable structures is reshaping how components are joined across the automotive, aerospace, railway and marine sectors. This talk addresses the full spectrum of structural joining: adhesive bonding, joining by forming, welding, bio-joining and the design of advanced testing equipment. A guiding philosophy links fundamental research to industrial application through a continuous knowledge-transfer cycle. Recent developments are highlighted, including the modelling of adhesive flow and curing, dismantlable and self-healing vitrimer adhesives for recyclable electric vehicle batteries, fatigue-life prediction tools, machine-learning detection of weak adhesion, hole-hemming and tube-fit forming processes, and solid-state welding of dissimilar metals enhanced by a novel buttering technique. Bio-based solutions are also presented, ranging from densified-wood structures to adhesively bonded horseshoes, alongside bespoke testing machines—from one step adhesive characterization devices to apparatus for studying avalanche-prone snow layers. Throughout, emphasis is placed on durability, dismantling and recyclability as key enablers of cleaner mobility, and on translating laboratory results into validated tools adopted by leading industrial partners worldwide.
报告人简介:
Lucas F. M. da Silva is a Full Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and founder of the Advanced Joining Processes Unit at the Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (INEGI), a 35-member group dedicated to structural joining—adhesive bonding, welding, mechanical joining and bio-joining—and to the design of advanced testing equipment. His work is distinguished by a strong connection between fundamental science and industrial application, supported by collaborations with companies such as Aston Martin, Volvo, Bosch, Sika and John Deere. He has authored or edited nearly 50 books and around 750 documents indexed in Scopus, attracting some 25,500 citations (h-index ≈ 80), and is Editor-in-Chief of seven peer-reviewed journals, including The Journal of Adhesion. His distinctions include the University of Porto Scientific Excellence Award (2026) and recognition among the world's top 0.05% of researchers and top four in adhesion science. He has coordinated about 40 research projects, holds 15 patent applications, and serves as an evaluator for the European Research Council and a consultant to NATO and AIST (Japan). He is also a high-end foreign expert at Tongji University, China, and a dedicated advocate for engineering education and women in STEM.
